Use the search box to look for specific articles, or use the topic filters to display results that are relevant to a particular subject. Use the "clear filters" button to reset all search terms and filters.

    Reply to an email


    To reply only to the sender of the email message you are viewing, click Reply in the Icon Menu bar. The entire message will automatically be copied into a Reply window. Enter the message you want to send, then click Send.

    If the message was sent to a group of people and you want to reply to all of them, click Reply to All in the Icon Menu bar. The entire message will automatically be copied into a Reply window. Enter the message you want to send, then click Send.

    Read an email



    • Make sure that Outlook is selected in the Navigation bar.
    • If you have the Reading Pane turned on, any message you click will automatically display in the Reading Pane.
    • If the Reading Pane is off, double-click a message to open it. You may have to enable popups in your browser for the message to open in a window.


    • Make sure that Mail is selected in the Navigation bar.

    Delayed delivery of messages in Outlook 2016 for Windows


    The default is for Outlook to have the Use Cached Exchange Mode field checked. When Cached Exchange Mode is on, a copy of your mailbox is stored locally on your computer. This provides quick access to your data, but in this state, mail cannot be queued to be sent when the Outlook mailbox is not open.

    Locating a List in ListServ


    1. Log in to
    2. Type the name of the list in the Access Unlisted Lists Search box on the right side of the page and select your list.
    3. Press Enter.


    The lists that appear when you first log in are lists that have archiving enabled. Not all the lists on the ListServ show in the initial list. One of the places you can find them is described herein.

    What is Office 365?


    Office 365 is the name of the Microsoft suite of online productivity tools. Comprised of email, calendar, contacts, communication, and collaboration tools, these accounts and the data in them reside on Microsoft servers around the country - referred to as "the cloud". Dartmouth's instance of Office 365 is commonly referred to as Dartmouth "Blitz".

    • A paperclip means the message has an attachment.
    • A flag indicates you have flagged the message for follow up.
    • A check indicates you have flagged a message as complete.
    • An exclamation point indicates a message has been marked as high priority by the sender.
    • A down arrow indicates a message has been marked as low priority by the sender.

    • A blue vertical bar to the left of a message means that the message has not been read.

    Create a Contact Group in Outlook

    1. Click Contacts (or People) in the Navigation pane on the bottom left of the Outlook window.
    2. On the Home tab, click New Contact Group.
    3. In the Name field, type the name of your Contact Group (for example, "Political Friends").
    4. On the Contact Group tab, in the Members group, click Add Members.

    One contact can have multiple email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses, etc.

    What Is the Difference Between Outlook and Exchange?


    Exchange is the software that provides the back end to an integrated system for email, calendaring, messaging, and tasks. Using a web browser and navigating to allows you to access your Exchange account directly.

    Outlook is an application installed on your computer (Windows or Macintosh) that can be used to communicate (and sync) with the Exchange system.

    Why is My Mailbox Getting So Slow?


    Dartmouth's mail system supports up to 20,000 messages in a single folder. If you have more than that in one folder, the system will not perform as well for you. We recommend you archive messages from that folder or create another folder and move some of the messages to the new folder.
