Changing Your Password

Warning

When you change your password, within 24 hours you must change the password on any and all devices (phones, tablets, iPads, etc.) that attempt to login automatically to your account or use your account to access Dartmouth Secure. If you fail to do so, you may be locked out of your account due to those devices repeatedly attempting to log in using your old credentials. If you get locked out of your account, call the IT help desk at 603-646-2999 or your area's IT Support office to regain access.

Step-by-Step

  1. Go to https://dartdm.dartmouth.edu.
  2. Log in with your NetID and your current password. If you do not know your current password, click the Forgot your password? link and answer your security questions, then go to Step 5.
  3. From the menu on the right side, click Change Password.
  4. Enter your current password.
  5. Enter your new password. You will be required to enter it twice to verify it.
  6. Click Change Password.
  7. IMPORTANT- If you use a Windows computer that logs in to the Kiewit domain with your NetID, you should not shut down or restart your computer immediately after changing the password in DartDM.  You should first log off your computer then log back in to your computer with your new password. The computer must be using ethernet when you log off and log back on. If your computer is encrypted with PGP, this method will update the PGP passphrase to be your new password.  If your computer is encrypted with PGP and you shut down the computer before you log off/log on, you will need to use your OLD password to get through the PGP Passphrase screen one time, then log onto Windows with your new password.

All current faculty, staff, alumni and students of Dartmouth have a Dartmouth Account with a corresponding user name (NetID) and password. Your user name (NetID) and password are what identifies you on the Dartmouth network and allows you to authenticate in order to access your email account and other systems. It is your electronic fingerprint. The Dartmouth Directory Manager is a web-based utility designed to allow you to edit selected account and mail settings.

As a responsible member of the Dartmouth community, it is critical you maintain the security of your account. If someone obtains your user name and password, they can log into systems that do not require an additional authentication step for access as if they were you. If you think someone is using your password or that your account may be compromised, you should change your password immediately.

Changing your password affects authentication into any system that uses your NetID (e.g. your Dartmouth.edu email account, OneDrive for Business, Banner Self-Service, Oracle eBusiness Suite, VPN, the Dartmouth Web Authentication page, etc.).
