Main Menu in Drupal

Details

All Drupal sites at Dartmouth have a Main Menu (also known as the horizontal navigation). It's one of the first things you see when you visit the homepage of a Dartmouth website, whether you are logged in to make changes or not. On academic department websites, the menu will usually include tabs for Undergraduate (and/or Graduate) programs, News & Events, and a listing of the People in the department. Other sites may be structured differently, depending on their needs.

It's important to know how your site is organized, especially when you add Basic Pages or Webforms to your site. If you don't tell Drupal where in the Main Menu a new page is supposed to go, visitors won't be able to access the page unless they are directly linked to it some other way.

When you are logged in, you can edit the order in which pages appear under the Main Menu. Click on the "Main menu" link on the control panel at the top of your screen, and you will see how your pages are arranged. (This is not a list of the pages themselves, only a list of links to those pages. Deleting a link will not delete the page.)

Using the Main Menu screen is helpful when you have added a new Basic Page or Webform to your site and wish to control where it will appear, but it can be dangerous if you try to modify menu-level items. Web Services does not support those kinds of changes, as they may break important functionality on your site.
