Remote IT Support Sessions

Step-by-Step

Information Technology Services (ITS) has a tool called TeamViewer that allows our staff members to take control your computer remotely, but ONLY WITH YOUR EXPLICIT PERMISSION.

Remote Control of a Macintosh Computer

  1. Click here to start a remote support session on a Macintosh computer.
  2. If prompted, click OK to download the file.
  3. Go to your Downloads folder and click to open the TeamViewerQS application. (You may need to hold down the control key at the same time as clicking the application depending on your security settings.)
  4. If prompted, click Open.
  5. A Dartmouth TeamViewer QuickSupport window will appear. Give the numbers that appear in the Your ID field, then those that appear in the Password field, to the ITS staff person with whom you are working.
  6. A small window will appear in the corner of your screen showing the name of the ITS support staff currently connected to your computer. Do NOT close this window until the support session is concluded.

Remote Control of a Windows Computer

  1. Click here to start a remote support session on a Windows computer.
  2. If you are using Internet Explorer, click Run to download and install the software. Other browsers may require you to download the application then run it from your computer.
  3. A Dartmouth TeamViewer QuickSupport window will appear. Give the numbers that appear in the Your ID field, then those that appear in the Password field, to the ITS staff person you are working with.
  4. A small window will appear in the corner of your screen showing the name of the ITS support staff currently connected to your computer. Do NOT close this window until the support session is concluded.

Details

The tool requires you to install a small applet and provide us with a passcode that only you see. When the session window is closed, we are denied further access to your computer. We cannot regain remote control of your computer unless you provide us with another passcode.
