Description

Information Technology Services (ITS) uses two solutions to encrypt the entire hard drive of a laptop or desktop that may contain sensitive data;

  • Symantec’s PGP Encryption Solution on Windows 7.x/8.x and Macintosh computers
  • Microsoft BitLocker on Windows 10 computers

Dartmouth faculty and staff on Dartmouth-owned computers.

Benefits and Features

  • Hard drive encryption software protects the entire contents of a laptop or desktop; not just specific files or folders.
  • If your computer is stolen, your data is still protected.
  • With the assistance of the IT Help Desk , you have the ability to access your encrypted files even if you can’t remember your encryption password.
  • Provides reporting on the status of your data and whether it’s protected.
  • It also provides compliance with institutional, federal, and state requirements.

Fees

ITS currently pays 100% of these licenses so there is no charge for faculty and staff.
