    Leaving Dartmouth - Export Email and Contacts to Gmail


    Follow the steps below to transfer email and contacts from your account to a gmail account.

    1. Set up forwarding of your Dartmouth email to your Gmail account.

    Important: Once you complete this step, no email will be delivered to your mailbox; it will only be forwarded to the email account you specify. You will not be able to recover messages sent to your account after your set forwarding from your mailbox. Therefore, ENSURE that the email address you enter is accurate.

    Set Forwarding on Your Account: Log into Dartmouth's Directory Manager system ( and set the forwarding on your account to another non-Dartmouth e-mail address that you own.

    Migrate Any Messages You Want Retained: Log into your account and review any messages there. If there are any you want to keep, forward them to your non-Dartmouth account.

    Terminating Accounts


    A Dartmouth student, faculty or staff member’s behavior or actions leads a dean, department head, VP or supervisor to consider cutting off access to Dartmouth accounts.

    Leaving Dartmouth


    When your time as a student at Dartmouth is complete, your address will continue to exist, but the mailbox attached to your account will be deleted within 60 days of your departure. In order to not lose any messages, contacts or calendar events, you need to set up your address to forward to another non-Dartmouth account prior to your mailbox deactivation.

    Expiration of Dartmouth Accounts


    Employee Accounts - Under normal circumstances, employee accounts expire 30 days after termination. Deleting individual email accounts prior to the expiration date is done only at the request of the departing individual, or due to a personnel issue and requested by Human Resources.

    MyFiles and OneDrive when leaving Dartmouth


    When you leave Dartmouth, any files stored in your MyFiles space or the OneDrive space attached to your account will no longer be available to you. Prior to leaving, make sure to copy any files you will need after Dartmouth to a location you have access to from a non-Dartmouth account.

    Search for Files and Content in Sharepoint


    Search using Site Search Box

    1. Type the text you are looking for into the Search Box found in the upper-right corner of your SharePoint Site.
    2. Press Enter.

    Search using Library Search Box

    1. If you are not already there, move to the top level of the "Document Library" for the site you are searching. 
    2. In the search window in the top left, that appears underneath the App Launcher and "Office 365", type the text you are looking for.
    3. Press Enter.

    Leaving Dartmouth - Nicknames/Aliases


    At Dartmouth, everyone can set up to two email aliases so that they can receive e-mail at a name by which they are more commonly known. See Manage Email Aliases for additional information.


    Leaving Dartmouth - Canvas


    Canvas allows you to download a zip file of all your assignment submissions in all of your present and past courses, packaged into a single zip file. In Canvas, go to your profile settings, and then click Download Submissions to generate the zip file.
