    Canvas Access

    Details

    Any active Dartmouth account should be able to log into canvas.dartmouth.edu. You will first be prompted with the Dartmouth WebAuth login pages. If you can successfully log into WebAuth, then you should be able to see Canvas. If you are not enrolled in any courses, you won't be able to access anything once logged in.

    Centrally booked classrooms

    Details

    Central booked classrooms are designed for self-service use of computer, video, and document display. Faculty may also record their voice and the computer desktop in any central booked classroom using TechSmith Relay or Echo360 (available in select locations).

    Screen and Class Capture Service Overview

    Description

    Classroom capture generally refers to lecture recording: a live class is being recorded, capturing the instructor’s computer display, the instructor and the front of the physical classroom, or both. TechSmith Relay (formerly Camtasia Relay) and Echo360 are commonly used for this.

    Classroom Response Systems Service Overview

    Description

    Classroom response systems are often known simply as “clickers”. The operating principle is that in order to increase in-class student engagement and learning, the instructor will present questions to her class to which students respond with either a dedicated device (“clicker”) or with a web-based tool or text message.

    Dartmouth has a variety of facilities for courses and seminars. You can choose from projection-equipped centrally booked classrooms or the instructional center where each student station is equipped with a computer. Display equipment can also be scheduled in many non-equipped classrooms.

    Here are six important steps to successful use of technology in the classroom.

    Get the Right Classroom

    Describe the capacity, furnishings, and technology you will need when the A&S Registrar solicits this information from your department each term. Check with your Department Administrator or Chair for more information. Most A&S centrally booked classrooms are equipped for computer and DVD display. Most other classrooms can be equipped on a term by term basis.

    The Instructional Design team supports the use of many specialized technology tools for teaching and learning, and helps faculty experiment and innovate with such tools. Many of these tools are available on the web and many of them plug into Canvas.
