Desktop Hardware Service Overview



Information, Technology & Consulting helps members of the Dartmouth community to obtain, use and dispose of desktops and laptops:

  1. The Computer Store at Dartmouth College provides a retail store for purchasing computer equipment and accessories.
  2. They work with vendors to obtain academically discounted prices for members of the Dartmouth community.
  3. The Computer Store also has certified repair technicians who diagnose and repair failed hardware.
  4. The Computer Store has a rental program for a variety of short-term, travel or office-based needs.
  5. Departments can also participate in the Computer Assurance Program (CAP). This program provides a new computer every 3 to 4 years to participating users. 
  6. Public computers are located in various locations around campus.

Available to

  • Dartmouth students, faculty and staff can take advantage of The Computer Store retail and service center, as well as their rental program.
  • Disposal of old computer equipment is available for equipment purchased with Dartmouth funds.

Benefits and Features

The Computer Store has a demonstration area where you can try out the latest models and ask specific questions. Features include:

  • Purchases can be paid via a valid Chart string account, a DA$H account, cash, credit card (MC, Visa, Discover) or a personal check.
  • Purchases through The Computer Store allow you to take advantage of academic pricing.
  • The Computer Store has certified technicians on staff to diagnosis and repair failed hardware.


  • Repair Services: If the system is under warranty, The Computer Store will bill the vendor directly for the work. If it is not under warranty, this service is offered at competitive rates for time and materials, generally $75/hour with a one-hour minimum.
  • Computer rentals are currently $10/day
