Supported Hardware for Networking

When contracting with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) for your home, Information, Technology & Consulting (ITC) recommends you confirm the ISPs ability to support your computer model and operating system before you enter into an agreement with them. Be sure they are familiar with the Macintosh, Windows, or UNIX operating system on your computer and can help troubleshoot connectivity problems you may have when trying to connect to their network.

ITC staff are prepared to assist any Dartmouth student, faculty, or staff member with the following networking hardware as it relates to their connection to the Dartmouth network.

  • Any factory-installed networking cards for supported hardware
  • Apple external USB Ethernet

Apple Time Capsule, Airport Extreme and Express base stations are not supported and are not allowed on the campus network, but may be purchased for home use.

We do not support the installation, configuration or troubleshooting of any home networks or services, including dial-up, DSL, cable modem or satellite provided by Internet Service Providers (ISP) outside Dartmouth. If you are having a problem connecting to the Internet from a location other than Dartmouth's network, you will need to contact the Help Desk of the company that is providing that connection for you.
