Dartmouth Computer Store: On Campus for You

Tucked into the basement of McNutt Hall, Dartmouth’s Computer Store is a full service campus location for handling the personal technology needs of the Dartmouth community.

The store offers students, faculty, and staff educational discounts on hardware and software. Beyond computers, it sells cables, laptop bags, printers, and more, while its three sales employees and five service personnel offer a commitment to customer service. Says Computer Store Manager Theresa Woodward, “We try to go out of our way so students, faculty, and staff have what they need.”

Now offering iPhone Repair

The Computer Store’s Service department repairs any Apple, HP, Lenovo, and Dell machines under warranty. All technicians are certified on these devices, and repair everything from minor cable issues to catastrophic spills and drops. Customers leave equipment at the on-campus location, and can expect to pick it up within three to four days. For anyone who had initially purchased their hardware at the Computer Store, free loaners are available while the repair is ongoing.

The service department offers iPhone repair as part of a pilot from Apple. The program, only one of two such offered in the United States, is especially popular with students (but it’s available to everyone!).

A Fit for Every Department. And for Every Backpack.

The Computer Store’s staff knows Dartmouth.

Sales/Service Assistant Carleen Van Gulden recalls recently talking a faculty member out of purchasing a 15-inch Apple MacBook pro. “I told her it would be overkill for what she needed the machine for and how she would use it.” The customer recently stopped by to tell Carleen she was very happy with her MacBook Air purchase. She thanked her for not encouraging her to buy something she didn’t need.

The Computer Store’s sales experts know which machines suit which majors. And when customers visit the store, they can get a hands-on experience with the devices they are considering.

“A lot of people don’t know the difference between some of our models,” Woodward says. “Holding half a pound of weight is different than reading about it. So is actually shoving a laptop in a backpack, or typing on a keyboard to see which one you like best. When customers visit us, they get a real feel for the devices they are considering.”

Online and in the Library

Dartmouth’s Computer Store has an online location at computerstore.dartmouth.edu, and even a vending machine in Baker Library for late-night purchases such as adaptors and headphones.

The store in McNutt is open daily between 8:30am and 4:00pm. Once the academic term starts, hours expand to 8:30 to 5:00 pm and it will also be open Saturdays, 12:00 to 4:00 pm.
