LDAP Lookup for Thunderbird

Step-by-Step

Many users want to be able to lookup information from Dartmouth's Name Directory while they are using Thunderbird. Follow the steps below to do this:

  1. Click the Tools menu then select Account Settings.
  2. In the Account Settings window, click Composition & Addressing.
  3. Under the Addressing section, click the Use a different LDAP server radio button, then click Edit Directories...
  4. In the Select an LDAP Directory Server window, click Add.
  5. Enter the following information:
    • Name: Lookup
    • Hostname: ldap.dartmouth.edu
    • Base DN: dc=Dartmouth,dc=edu (no spaces, exactly as shown)
    • Port: 636
    • Bind DN: (leave blank)
  6. Check the box for Use secure connection (SSL).

  7. Click OK three times to return to the main Thunderbird window.
