Search the Global Address List

Step-by-Step

When searching the Global Address Listing (GAL) database in Outlook, you may need to search for someone using more than just a last name. For example, searching by first name or an alias might be more helpful. Here is how to set this up:

Using Outlook for Windows:

  1. While creating an email, click the To button to access the Global Address List.
  2. Select the radio button adjacent to More columns.

Now, when you are searching, it will search more than just the Last Name column.

Using Outlook for Mac:

  1. As you type a name into the To field (or Cc or Bcc), it will populate a drop down menu with the names and email addresses from your Contacts and Recent Addresses, and from the Directory (GAL) that match the name you are typing. Select the name you need from the list.
