Details

Any student can apply for a position with the Walk-In Center. Students are selected based on the following criteria:

  1. Demonstrated skills, courtesy, professionalism, and experience communicating with other people.
  2. Willingness to work hard, learn about helping people, to improve computer skills, and to make a positive contribution to a healthy, team-oriented working environment.
  3. Responsibility and commitment to the team and the mission of the IT Walk-in Center.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of Macintosh and Windows operating systems.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of computers in general.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of standard desktop applications and tools used by the Dartmouth community.

All applications are reviewed by the Manager of the IT Walk-In Center. The applicants whose schedules and qualifications best match our needs are chosen. Students who have worked for the Walk-In Center in the past, and who have demonstrated consistent performance and initiative, are given priority over new applicants. The reverse is true as well; students who have demonstrated inconsistent or below-par performance will be ranked beneath new applicants.

The first term is a probationary period, during which skills and performance are monitored and assessed. Rehiring will be based on these assessments.
