ITS at Dartmouth Prepares for United Way Campaign

Just beyond campus, many of our fellow community members experience poverty, food insecurity, homelessness, and other destabilizing issues. Dartmouth employees can support services that serve so many people in need.

In mid-October, Dartmouth faculty and staff will receive an envelope with a pledge form inviting them to contribute to the United Way. This year marks the 42nd year the College and the nonprofit organization will partner to support vital services to the community beyond the college.

“To me, a benefit of the Upper Valley United Way campaign is that it offers me an opportunity to direct funds to community programs that I personally believe are important,” says, Ellen Waite-Franzen, Vice President for Information Technology, Chief Information Officer of ITS. “Without United Way funds coming to these programs, many of them could not exist—and so many of them provide the extra support that our neighbors, families, and children in the region really need. I encourage everyone to open the envelope and take a look at the opportunities for giving that the campaign offers.”

Employees can donate by filling out a pledge form, going online, sending a check, or making a phone call.

Contributions to the Dartmouth/United Way support 47 organizations in the Upper Valley. Employees can make a general donation to the United Way itself, or can donate directly to one of the United Way’s organizations. Alternately, donors can choose to have funds go to a non-profit agency not included in the Upper Valley United Way programs, as long as they include the tax-exempt ID number on the pledge form. According to Mimi Simpson, Executive Director, President’s Office, who volunteers for the campaign’s steering committee: “Our overall goal for the entire campaign is $295,000. This year, we’re also looking for a hundred new employee donors. Employees can give a lump sum or spread it out over every paycheck, through the popular payroll deduction option.”
