United Way Agency Spotlight: COVER Home Repair

This year marks the 42nd year Dartmouth and the United Way have partnered to support vital services to the community beyond the college. So far, Dartmouth has raised $59,533 of its $295,000 goal it hopes to achieve by December 15. Dartmouth/ITS employees can contribute with the pledge form they received in the mail in mid-October, or they can donate online. Here's a message from COVER Home Repair, just one of the many local agencies supported by the United Way:

COVER Home Repair is a homelessness prevention program committed to the idea that the core resource needed to support low-income homeowners is the goodwill and helpfulness of our neighbors. COVER’s volunteers complete 65-70 urgently needed home repair projects and 80 weatherization projects annually. Home repair projects include leaking roofs, structural and floor repair, accessibility ramps, and fall-risk prevention for seniors. Our weatherization program saves homeowners an average of 123 gallons per year.

COVER catalyzes healthy community in the Upper Valley by organizing volunteers to work with homeowners to complete this work. COVER in turn needs the support of the broader community. Our partnership with United Way and Dartmouth College is absolutely critical to our work—as key sources for volunteers and for the financial support needed to run our programs.

We are so grateful to United Way and to Dartmouth for their consistent and sustaining commitment to addressing the housing needs of low-income homeowners in the Upper Valley!
