Create a Contact Group in Outlook

Step-by-Step

Outlook 2013, 2016 (Windows)

  1. Click Contacts (or People) in the Navigation pane on the bottom left of the Outlook window.
  2. On the Home tab, click New Contact Group.
  3. In the Name field, type the name of your Contact Group (for example, "Political Friends").
  4. On the Contact Group tab, in the Members group, click Add Members.
  5. Then choose From Outlook contacts, From Address Book, or New EMail Contact.
    • Use the Address Book to find and select people from the Dartmouth name directory (Global Address List).
  6. In the Search box, type a name that you want to include.
  7. When the name you're searching for appears in the list, select it, then click Members.
  8. Do this for each person whom you want to add to the Contact Group, then click Save & Close..

The Contact Group list is saved in your Contacts folder under the name you give it. You will manage this list.

Whenever you need to send an email to everyone on this list, just enter the list name in the To: field of the email window.

Outlook 2016 (Macintosh)

  1. Select Contacts (or People) from the Navigation pane on the bottom left of the Outlook window.
  2. On the Home tab, click the New Contact List button.
    Note: If this button is grayed out, do the following:
    1. Click Outlook in the menu bar then select Preferences.
    2. In the Personal Settings group, click General.
    3. In the Folder List section, UNCHECK the box beside Hide On My Computer folders.
    4. Close the General window.
    5. Navigate back to the Home tab and click on the New Contact List button.
  3. Enter a name for this Contact list.
  4. Click the Add button to begin adding names to this Contact list.
    • As you begin to type in names, you should be prompted to select names from the Dartmouth name directory (Global Address List).
  5. When finished, click Save & Close.

Whenever you need to send an email to everyone on this list, just enter the list name in the To: field of the email window.
