Configuring Microsoft Office Updates

Step-by-Step

Windows

Microsoft Update provides updates for both Windows and Microsoft's Office Suite simultaneously, by configuring your Update software in the following way.

  1. Click Start then Control Panel.
  2. Click System and Security (if you are grouping your control panel icons) then Windows Update.
  3. In the left-hand column, click Change Settings.
  4. Under Important Updates, click Install updates automatically.
  5. Make sure the Give me updates for Microsoft products and check for new optional Microsoft software when I update Windows is checked, then click OK.
** Note: If you have Office 365/Click-to-Run version, you will not see the above option. Updates happen automatically, and independently from Windows updates.

Macintosh

Microsoft AutoUpdate for the MacIntosh, which comes with Office, keeps your Microsoft software up to date automatically. There is no need to search for critical updates and information; AutoUpdate delivers them directly to your computer. However, you can also use AutoUpdate manually when you want to check for updates.

To set up AutoUpdate to automatically check for updates:

  1. Open any Microsoft Office Program (Word, Excel, etc.).
  2. Click Help.
  3. Click Check for Updates.
  4. Select Automatically.
  5. Under Check for Updates choose how often you would like your computer to be checked - Daily, Weekly or Monthly.
  6. Click Check for Updates to see if there are any software updates you don't already have installed.

Microsoft also provides a Web site where you can view updates that are available for Microsoft products that run on a MacIntosh. Select the updates that you need from the list provided. See Download Microsoft Office Updates for more information.
