System Maintenance Windows

Information Technology Services has established regular maintenance windows for each group within the department that deals with production systems. This is to allow everyone who will be affected by these outages to be able to make more long term plans. These outages will still be reported through the Change Management process.

Each Information Technology Services group will schedule their planned outages during their scheduled maintenance window as much as possible. If for some reason an outage cannot be scheduled during these regular maintenance windows, the group would need to coordinate with the Change Management group, and avoid the reserved maintenance windows of other groups as much as possible.

If there is an emergency that needs to be dealt with immediately, and it occurs in the maintenance window of another group, the group with the emergency needs to communicate and coordinate with the group that owns that maintenance window.

Information Technology Service Maintenance Windows

  • Administrative Computing has every Thursday morning from 3:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. for database changes
  • Administrative Computing has every Thursday night from 9:00 p.m. to midnight for Oracle Application changes
  • Network Services and Infrastructure Services has every Tuesday and Saturday morning from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. for non-Oracle related production systems
  • Network Services and Infrastructure Services has every Tuesday and Saturday morning from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. for Oracle related production systems
  • Payroll runs on many Wednesdays, so outages on that day should be avoided

This schedule leaves Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday as unscheduled.

Oracle database processes run every night between midnight and 3:00 a.m., so that time should be avoid as much as possible for those outages that may affect the Oracle systems.

Normal processing jobs should not be scheduled to run any day of the week between 3:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., as that is when most system maintenance will occur — unless you do not care if the job does not run 100% of the time.
